I Built a Free USA Flag Plugin for Final Cut Pro in Twenty Minutes With AI!

Amazing what you can build in under half an hour!  This free Final Cut Pro plugin that displays an American flag waving was built using the vector graphics from AI.

Summary:

A technical guide detailing the creation of the USA flag as an SVG graphic, which was then converted through Pixelmator Pro and Apple Motion to create a free Final Cut Pro plugin. This plugin is available for download from the Idustrial Revolution website.

Star Placement Development:

The initial SVG attempts placed stars outside the canton area. Through iterative prompting, we:

  • Adjusted the scale transformation to contain stars within bounds
  • Fine-tuned x,y coordinates for proper spacing
  • Reduced star size from circles to precise 5-pointed shapes
  • Optimized spacing between rows to ensure even distribution
  • Corrected bottom row visibility issues by adjusting vertical spacing

Technical Details:

SVG Development:

  • Created 16:9 aspect ratio viewport (1600x900)
  • Implemented 13 alternating stripes using rect elements
  • Added canton (blue rectangle) at correct proportions
  • Created 50 five-pointed stars using path data
  • Positioned stars in 9 alternating rows (6-5-6-5-6-5-6-5-6)
  • Used official colors: # B31942 (red), # 041E42 (blue), # FFFFFF (white)
  • Optimized star placement coordinates for proper canton coverage

Conversion Process:

  1. SVG exported and opened in Pixelmator Pro
  2. Vector layers automatically preserved
  3. Imported into Apple Motion as separate manipulatable elements
  4. Motion project exported as Final Cut Pro plugin
  5. Plugin now enables drag-and-drop USA flag animation in FCPX

Key technical achievement: Maintained perfect vector scalability throughout the workflow, ensuring crisp edges at any resolution in the final video output.
