STAGE 5 Uploading to YouTube We now have our finished side by side video, now to upload to YouTube. This is more or less the same as uploading any video, but to get the playback in 3D you must add the tag yt3d:enable=true failure to do this will result in the video looking exactly like your side by side video! The controls to alter the method of display will not show too. ![]() A couple of quick points here to make sure you are seeing it in 3D 1) Make sure you are not using the beta HTML5 version of YouTube. 2) Do not embed the video, you will lose the 3D and the 3D controls, always watch on the Youtube standalone 'white page' Conclusions It is easy to use Motion & FCP to output 3D and view using the methods described above. What I have made though is a guess at all the settings needed. I'm sure somebody with better maths will come back and tell me exactly what distance the cameras need to be apart and also the angle (if any) that they need to point. A template from Apple with the next edition of motion would be an excellent idea. Doing exact 3D would be a lot more difficult as you have another parameter to control, where the screen is! However with enough experimentation I'm sure professional results could be achieved. Whilst making this I thought how cool would it be if motion actually had a 3D viewer built in. Imagine being able to composite in 3D space whilst the timeline was playing! If that would never be possible, how about a script that renders both eyes out and tags them at the same time? One thing for sure, this is just the beginning.. ©PeterWiggins 2010 |

written by Nick R on June 15, 2010 Can't believe no-one has commented on this very helpful guide. No-one seems to be using Motion for stereoscopic footage, or atleast they are not sharing information if they are. This guide has helped the project I'm on massively, thank you Peter. Write comment
